State Acquires Two Major Forest Tracts Near Sewanee

Two botanically diverse forest tracts located south of Sewanee have been acquired as part of the state's conservation lands program: Sherwood Forest - 4,061 acres Tunnel-Hill - 411 acres These acquisitions help to further link together the already extensive network of conservation lands in the southern Cumberland Plateau. Acquisitions were made as a result of the efforts of several conservation organizations including: The Landtrust for Tennessee, The Conservation Fund and the Open Space Institute.

Scheffers '05 Publishes Climate Change Review Article in Science

Lab alum, Brett Scheffers '05 was the lead author on a major review article on ecological impacts of climate change published this week in Science magazine entitled: "The broad footprint of climate change from genes to biomes to people." Dr Scheffers is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida.

Conference of SE Partners in Plant Conservation

Dr. Evans represented Sewanee at the first ever meeting of Southeastern Partners in Plant Conservation (SePPCon) held at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, November 1-3, 2016. The purpose of the meeting was to bring together government agencies, land managers, botanical gardens, university programs, and botanical experts to inform each other on best practices and topics relevant to rare plant conservation and form a cohesive network of resources to support regional efforts for at-risk & listed plant species in the Southeastern U.S. Dr. Evans is member of the planning committee for the formation of a Tennessee Plant Conservation Alliance and this group had its first meeting on Nov. 3 at the Se
