Domain Forest Publication Featured

Our recent publication about forest change on the Domain has been featured online in the blog entitled "Natural History of Ecological Restoration" maintained by Leighton Reid C'06, assistant professor of restoration ecology at Virginia Tech University. The publication: "Differential resistance to tree species loss between two dominant communities in a resilient southeastern landscape" was published this summer in the Natural Areas Journal (vol 32, issue 2).

Herbarium Research to be Featured in Story on PBS Show, "Tennessee's Wild Side"

Professor Evans and Herbarium Fellow Sidnee Everhart C'21 were interviewed today by Steve Hall (shown in picture), the producer of the Public Televsion show, "Tennessee's Wild Side." Program was about the moon trees in Tennessee and will be aired in October. These are trees that were grown from seeds carried on the Apollo 14 mission. Sewanee has a sycamore tree growing next to Spencer Hall that is one of these "moon trees." Steve Hall asked questions in the interview about plant awareness on our campus and the clonal plant research we are conducting. Also interviewed was Cade Sterling C'22, Biochemistry major working with Dr. Palagi and Dr. Evans on the Sassafras project.

New Herbarium Fellow Announced!

We are delighted to announce that Sidnee Everhart C'21 has been chosen as our fourth Undergraduate Fellow. Sidnee joins George Burruss C'22, Lillian Fulgham C'21 and Angus Pritchard C'22 as our team of Herbarium Fellows this academic year. The Fellowship program is supported by an endowment established by the family of Ashley Block, C’13, in her memory. We are excited about the expertise in GIS and invasive plants that Sidnee brings to the program. Sydnee describes her interest and journey in becoming a fellow: I took my first hike on the McDowell, VA game lands amidst Mourning warblers and pink lady slippers at the ripe old age of two weeks in my dad’s backpack and grew up caked in the red
