Lab Hosts Forest Soils Conference

My lab hosted the 37th Annual Central States Forest Soils Workshop at Sewanee this past week (Oct 10-11). Disciplines attending the workshop included foresters, soil scientists, educators, land use consultants and managers from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee. At the opening session, students in my Reading the Landscape Class presented posters describing the ecological consequences of land-use change on the Domain. The first full day of the workshop was spent exploring five of my research sites on the Domain and in Franklin State Forest where the participants learned about land-use legacies, vernal pools, oak population ecology and long-term forest dynamics on the Cumberland Plateau.

Workshop participants discuss soil profile at one of my study sites in Franklin State Forest
